What You’ll Need

  • Running boards
  • Ratchet and Socket Set
  • Box End Wrenches
  • Safety Glasses and leather gloves
  • Creeper (optional)

Directions

  • Collect all the tools and hardware you need for the installation process. Wear your safety gear, that is, the goggles and gloves, to protect you from injury.
  • You can start with the driver’s side. Locate the five pre-drilled holes that should attach the brackets to the truck’s frame. These holes with rubber plugs are located directly under the doors on the inner side of the frame.
  • Most Chevy Silverado trucks come with those holes, but if yours doesn’t, you’ll have to drill some for yourself. Keep in mind that drilling holes may void your warranty.
  • You will bolt the brackets on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Pull out the rubber plugs from the larger holes on your truck. Starting with the front, mount two brackets on the first two holes with a bolt, washer, and nut onto the threaded holes. The clip nut goes into the larger hole while the threaded nuts go into the other smaller holes. Keep the bolts snug but do not tighten just yet. Then repeat the process on the rear bracket.
  • Place the board on the bracket about 3 inches from the wheel opening and make sure it aligns with the bolts along with it. Position the board in a way that is comfortable to use, and it’s not a barrier to anything.
  • Attach the running board to the bracket using the bolts that came with it. Readjust and level the running board one more time, then tighten the bolts.
  • Go to the passenger’s side, and ensure the boards are not in the way of the fuel tank or lower tanks under the tray. If it does, you need to lower the tank or tray. Then repeat the installation process as we have explained above.
  • Once you complete installing the running boards, go back and tighten all the bolts and hardware. Ensure the running boards are not loose on both sides. Get into your car and test the stability of the running boards.
