How to Reset the Honda Odyssey Oil Light

The Honda Odyssey oil life indicator tells you when your oil needs a change. Your Honda reset oil life meter will read a low percentage if your car is due for an oil change. 

A “Maint Reqd”  or “Maintenance due soon” light will appear on some models. You can follow these steps if you wish to reset the oil life light on your Honda Odyssey:

  • First, turn on your car, but do not start the engine.
  • Next, push the select or reset knob until the Remaining Oil Life option appears on your display. 
  • Next, press the select/reset knob until the oil life light blinks. This step should take about ten seconds. 
  • Press and hold the knob again for five seconds. Your oil life light should reset itself. 
  • Turn your car off, then on again to ensure the reset worked.

How to Reset the Oil Light of 2018 to Present Honda Odyssey (RL6 5th Generation)

If you have 2018 to present Honda Odyssey, you can reset the oil life light by using any of these options:

Option 1-Use Instrumental Panel

  • Set the power mode to “On.”
  • Press the “Enter” button on the steering wheel until the Home screen is displayed.
  • Use the up and down arrows to highlight “Maintenance, “then press “Enter” to select it.
  • Use the up and down arrows to highlight “Oil Life,” and then press “Enter” to select it.
  • Note the item for the oil life. Then, press and hold “Enter” for 10 seconds.
  • Use the up and down arrows to highlight “All Due Items” or the item that corresponds to the oil life.
  • Press and hold “Enter” until a message displays that says reset is complete.

Option 2 – Using Touch Screen

  • Tap “Settings.”
  • Tap “Vehicle.”
  • Tap “Maintenance Information.”
  • Tap “Oil & Filter.”
  • Tap “Reset.”
  • Tap “Reset” again to confirm.

How to Reset the Oil Light of 2011 to 2017 Honda Odyssey (RL5 4th Generation)

You can reset the oil light of your 2011 to 2017 Honda Odyssey by following the procedure below. It should work whether you have a 2012 or 2015 Honda Odyssey. 

Non-Multi-Information Display:

  • Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting the engine).
  • Press and hold the Select/Reset knob for 10 seconds or more. The information display shows the initial reset mode.
  • Select oil life with the Select/Reset knob.
  • Press the Select/Reset knob for a few seconds to enter the reset mode.
  • Press and hold the Select/Reset knob for 5 seconds or more. The engine oil display will return to 100%.

Multi-Information Display:

  • Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting the engine).
  • Display the engine oil life by repeatedly pressing the SEL/RESET button.
  • Press and hold the SEL/RESET for more than 10 seconds. The oil life reset mode is displayed on the multi-information display.
  • Select RESET with the up or down button, and then press the SEL/RESET button. The engine oil life will reset to 100.
  • Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

How to Reset the Oil Light of 2005 to 2010 Honda Odyssey (RL3 3rd Generation)

You can reset the oil light on the 2005 to 2010 Honda Odyssey by following this procedure:

Use the Cluster Knob

  • Turn on the car without starting the engine.
  • Press the Select/Reset knob repeatedly until the “Remaining Oil Life” appears on display.
  • Press and hold the Select/Reset knob.
  • Release it and hold it again for five seconds. The oil life will reset to 100%, and you’ll no longer see amber light. 

Use the Steering Button

  • Put your key in the ignition and turn it to the run position just before the start.
  • Then, display the Remaining Oil Life on the screen using the SEL/RESET button.
  • After that, press and hold the SEL/RESET button until the display change to ‘‘CUSTOM SETUP.’’
  • Finally, press the SEL/RESET button to confirm the oil reset.

How to Reset the Oil Light of 1999 to 2004 Honda Odyssey (RL1 2nd Generation)

These models typically light up a “Maint Reqd” indicator to notify you that an oil change is needed. You can clear the message by following these steps:

  • Turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position.
  • Press the “Select/Reset” button on the instrument panel.
  • While holding the “Select/Reset” button, turn the ignition “ON.” Do not start the engine.
  • Hold the button(s) for 10 seconds or until the indicator resets.

You can use the following method to reset the oil light of your 1995-1998 Honda Odyssey:

With the Reset Button on Instrument Panel

  • Turn the ignition off.
  • Press the “SELECT” and “RESET” switches at the same time, and turn to ignition to the “RUN” position.
  • Hold switches for at least 10 seconds until the indicator is reset.
  • Turn the ignition off.

With Key Slot in Instrument Panel

  • Insert the key into the slot on the front of the instrument cluster.
  • The indicator will change to green when reset.
